Joining the Army, Job Question

There is so many decision, and so many opinions... Of couse not every single person is going to be happy. I just want to talk about it so the people that have gone through there can say

"hey instead of that I would advise this" and so forth.

Well I made an 82 on my ASVAB, now I have to go back this afternoon and sit down with the recruiter about jobs... I am thinking something towards and electrical engineer, or something of that nature.

For those saying you cant get jobs easily they just picked the wrong careers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif A guy in my shop just got picked up by a privet DoD contracting company working with exactly what we do (electronic warfare, radar jamming type stuff) except for navy submarines... 65k , not to bad considering he was only a staff seargent.

Right now im considering the blue to green program but with a guarnteed WOCS and flight school slot. If I do good enough on my AFAST (Army Flight Aptitude Screening Test) i'll be good to go.

I suggest stay away from enlisted, bust your balls, be top of your class during tech school (or AIT for you) try to be a "rope" if they have those in the army and show that your better than others, and try to shoot for a Warrent officer, or CO position.

I will do that, I wish I could talk to someone who was into the electronics field and get advice. My recruiter wasnt and the descriptions online are jibberish.. I want to be certain on what I do and right now I dont have a clue on what to choose.

Those descriptions mean absolutely nothing. The main thing when choosing a job is to look at the small things, "Will I get deployed alot?" "Will I work inside or outside?" "What will my hours be like?" "Will I get picked up for augmentee alot?" "Is there room for advancement in this particular career field?" "Will this specific job transfer out very well?"

and most of all

"Can I do this job 8-12 horus a day, every day for the next 4 years without going insane?"

There is alot of rough things said about the Army in this thread but I will say that the Army changed my life for the better. I wouldnt have anything that I have today if it wasnt for the Military. I was a Field Artilery fire direction control crew member for the Multipule Launch Rocket Systems. That title sounds pretty cool huh? Well thats the only thing cool about it. I was in Combat Arms and we were always training and always in the field. I sat in a small track with a shitty computer on minimal sleep processing fire missions all day and night. Every branch has it's ups and downs. In combat arms you get promoted fast but you may end up in a rapid deploying unit. In more of a garison support unit you might be in a job that promotes slow and sits in a office all day but what you learn can be transfered into civilian jobs easily.

What Iam trying to say is do your reasearch and dont let anyone talk you into anything you dont want to do. Also dont let them hype you up with a fancy job title. An example is the title "Transportation Specialist" Fancy name for a freakin truck driver or "Health Care specialist which is in reality a combat medic.

While I was in I kept my nose clean and hung around a good group of guys. I really liked the Army and was going to stay in but I had a very rough and I mean rough tour in Iraq. I was sent to the E-5 board with only 2 years and 3 months time in service and I was only 20 at the time. When I got out I used all the Army benifits and went to school full time but stayed in the Reserves for a nice sized bonus. If your wondering what Iam doing now I am working for the Department of the ARMY as a civilian now making pretty good money for my area. At times I wish I would of never got out since I miss alot of the Army life but never regreted enlisting.

If you have any questions hit me up bro.

25B Information Technology Specialist (my job)

I like it, i sit on a computer when i go to drill and the guys that got out of active say all they pretty much did was fix stuff when it broke, hook up wireless connections, basic stuff that people need

35T might be right the AIT is fairly long but they fix broken intelligence gear from radar to computers and they also maintain the electric equipment that keep intel running. Best of all it comes with a top secret clearence and advancement outside from contracting work to private companies. You can earn an associates in electrical engineering or something like that through AIT time so you get an MOS and a degree by time your out of AIT.

Think about it.

15T or gtfo.
