im looking to purchase a single 12" that sound great but can get loud also. i have the opportunity to purchase one or the other and would like you guys inputs. the jl is going for 250(hopefully i can get it for 230) and the q for 200(180?). advise would be appreciated. thanks

if u have the money and can get a 12w7 for $230 there should be no contest. 12w7 > 12fiQ its simple. If ur on a budget and can't afford the w7, a fi Q would be second best.

I have a 13w7 and my friend has a 15 FI Q. I like mine way better. His gets louder cuz its in a jeep, & mine is in a trunk where the seats dont fold down. I guarantee the 13w7 would get louder and sound better given the same circumstances. The quality of the w7 in unbeatable, if your willing to pay the price.

The 15" Q would get louder than the 13w7 hands down given same circumstances.

Sound quality I would say is comparable, the w7 with more though. But not to a point where it blows the Q out of the water.

Really now? You sound so sure, please tell us how you know this.
While the Q is a very good sub, the W7 simply outclasses it. More displacement potential, BL optimized for extreme linearity... no contest really. Only downside to the W7 in most comparisons is its price, which isn't a factor in this case. If the used one works fine, the W7 is the better deal here.

WTF! I am so glad I am off the Fi bandwagon. Some people have no idea.

Get the W7 for that price, much better deal and will be happier with it in the long run.

I suppose I don't "know" it as fact and I'll admit it.

The great 12" challenge had both a w7 and a Q though, and the Q got louder at every frequency. That was 2 12's. If the 12Q got louder than the 12w7, why then would the 15Q not get louder than the 13w7?

And I agree on your second point audio. I wasn't arguing that the Q was that much better in sound quality at all. The w7 is obviously a higher end sub, with a higher price tag.

thanks guys, i'll go ahead and buy the w7 as its local as well and i can test it. if im disappointed i can always sell it here and buy the fi q as thats the standard pricing. also, will the w7 fit in regular boxes and how hard would it be to install the ring clamps?
