so I've been shopping around for a JL W7 speaker for awhile now and alot of the ones i see online seem to have a crack or a hole in the cone. I had one guy selling 2 13w7's for $500. I then get pics and he has a crack in one, and a hole in the other. I meet up with a guy (drive 2 hours) and the 12w7 has a small crack in it. Alot of them seem to be cracked.... Why are they cracked? What makes this sub so much easier to crack??

Is it because they don't have grills or is it because it does it on it's own?

It is a good question tho.... Of all places I see a lot of holes right in the middle of them too. More so than any other sub

i think it is quincidence and also that JL subs do have astrange cone the w6 and w7, if u get real close to them and slowly push in the cone u can hear it crackle a litlle because there is a small gap between the cone layers im pretty sure they have 2 layers of cone, cuz technically the side we see is the dustcap,,

could be from idiots "poking" at them when they are "pounding". that's what happened to 3 floor models at good guys when they were still around. people would go in for a demo (you could choose the demo speakers/subs yourself) and then people would poke at the dustcap at full excursion.

If what we see is the dust cap, there shouldn't be a problem with the sub if it punctures correct? I have an offer on 2 13w7's... one with a crack, one with a small hole. they still bump incredible..... What will this crack and or hole do to affect performance?

buy some epoxy and seal that ***** up
