JL Slash V2s...

So is there any real difference besides the logo and name?

I am quite happy with my 300/4, I'm wondering if the new ones are actually better.

Hintzboy - I think the JL is more expensive than the LRX 1.400 because it will put out 1000 watts at 4 ohms, where the 1.400 will only do 350. They're still both awesome amps.

/off topic I really like the VRX1.500CS, with the wood grain, it looks like a very classy amp to go along with Audison performance //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The 1000/1 puts out the same power throughout it's impedence range. I only compared those two because they have similas max RMS specs. The only way I would need the added benefit of the 1000/1 over the LRx is if I were using wierd-impedence subs (single or dual 1.5 or 3 ohm coils, etc.). But even then, you don't NEED it. Besides, there are other good amps out there that do the same thing (PG Xenons for one).

Bottom line: Slash amps are great amps and have some pretty cool features. I'd still spend my money elsewhere unless I got a really good deal.

Yeah, I was just heading toward the fact that amps put out more power at lower impedances.

A regular 1000@4 ohm amp would put out 3000@1 ohm (give or take 500 watts)... which means 1000 watts at 4 ohms is pretty challenging to do. It will also put out 1000 watts at 11 volts, which is also hard to do. This is why I was saying the JL would naturally cost more if it could put out 1000 watts at 4 ohm where the Audison was less than half that.

I consider JL products a safe bet in car audio. If you don't want to do the research, you can spend the money and have a sure thing with the JL amp :p Same thing is generally true with their other products as well. Sure, there are others for cheaper... but the majority of people would be happy with a JL setup I think //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So does anybody know if this amp is any different?

Interesting math. List on the Audison is $899. $999 on the JL. Look at the 4.300 vs. the 300/4 and the Audison is about 50% more.
It would be more fair if you compared the current LRx not the outdated one. Current would be the 75 X 4/ 260 X 2 LRx4.5 and its about 25% more expensive. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

JL isnt exactly low end stuff. Im shure most people are happy with it. It just costs more than teenagers on an allowance can afford. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/escape.gif.52b661afb17bde1db0e0c7da97e75b38.gif

I'm not on allowance but I did work and have a JL setup. Of course i searched for some good deals. I don't think it's overpriced and I've been buying this stuff since 16

It is CERTAINLY not lowend. I'd be perfectly happy with a car full of JL equipment, but I wouldn't want to pay the price. The money isn't a problem, but there are several other brands I'd rather have for the money.

The rich don't stay rich by spending their money without shopping around. Me and my wife combined make over $65000 per year (Im 22 and she's 21), and let me tell you, that I will be the first to lowball you if you are selling something. I have been broke, and know what it feels like to want something bad and not have the money to pay for it. All-IN-ALL, I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. A wise man once told me that "Smart people learn from their mistakes, and WISE people learn from others mistakes."

You forgot the rest of the quote "...I want to be a wise man with smart friends." The way I heard it of course related to flying and "lucky" was in the place of "smart."

The wise man who wants to maximize his dollar will also tell you buy good once and have forever, buy cheap over and again and forever not have.

I paid top dollar for my amps in '96. I still have every one of them in pristine condition to this day. I make really good money and my wife should make more tham me this year. I still shop around a lot before buying something and even then I sweat the pennies. I was in college when I paid close to $2500 for the 3 amps that I still have. That was a huge chunk of money to me back then, still is to me now in fact even though I make close to 4x what I did then plus my wife's income. Those amps were a long term investment and over their life so far have cost me about $250 a year.

There are a lot of people on this board who call JL overpriced. These same people change their equipment as often as their underwear because they're never happy with what they have. They keep jumping to the flavor of the month and sell the used stuff at a loss. Over the course of a year or two they have thrown away enough money to have bought a full set of "overpriced" amps that would have served them well for many years. Ahh, the foolishness of youth...

Well put, you sound like a customer I would love to have. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As far as changing..personally I do it more from boredom. The majority of products I own/use/sell/etc do not fall short of satisfying me, I just simply get bored from looking at some of them. I also dont take a loss if/when I sell em. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
