Really doesn't look much different. Specs probably stayed the same.
I find both my 300/2 and 500/1 "v1" look better than those.

Yep because the chassis is the important part of the amp. What's inside it doesn't matter at all.
If by overpriced, you mean over your price, yeah they probably are, but compared to most good amps, they're really not that expensive. They look like a real bargain compared to TRU, Audison, Brax, Helix, Genesis, sinfoni and the like....

JL1000/1 MSRP is about $400 over the MSRP of the Audison LRx 1.400. JL isn't all overpriced. I would consider the W6 and W3 lines well worth the money. The W7 is definitely overpriced. The slash amps are a bit pricey, but the fact that it makes the same power from 1.5-4 ohms is a nice feature. I'd still buy one of the afforementioned SQ amps for the money.
I have went through a ton of amps in my 2005 Mazda3, Sony (shity) was my first setup, ALpine MRP Series F450 and M650 and the Alpine MRV series F545 and M605 and the Eclipse XA series XA-4000 and the XA-1000. My last setup is the JL 300/4 and the JL 500/1 and let me tell you the JL's kick all there *****!
I thought I was down grading going to the 300/4 from the XA-4000, but the JL sounds incredable 75x4 opposed to 125x4 makes no difference the SQ is 1000 x's better of the JL
I got the JL brand new for $250 of ebay and the 500/1 for 250, ipaid $375 for the XA 4000 and $180 for the XA 1000.
