JL Recone

I have a 10" JL 10w6 (old school, not the v2's) and was wondering if anyone here has gotten their oldschool W6 reconed. If so, how much were you charged? Anyone know if JL will recone this to a 15". I wouldn't mind running a pair if I can get 3 cubes out of my trunk.

JL does not recone the original W6 series any more. They never did "recones" to other sizes either.

I can't remember who, but someone on here had the soft parts for these subs available. I think it was Haunz.

Thanks for the info. I found a couple websites that do recones for them, but not sure how well they do them and even if they can to another size. I may just sell the sub.

they do some JL stuff. Also there is an Ebay shop that sells some jl recone stuff.

maybe Robot underground has some hacks to do a recone on it as well. They frankenstien alot of diffrent subs.

Thanks for the link. I don't want to Frankenstein anything. I'd need it to be the same parts and whatnot since I would pair it up with my other 15w6.

Nothing is wrong, I was just wondering what the costs are for reconing it to a 15.

From what Manville has said, the original W6's used off-the-shelf parts (hence the reason SPL was able to copy them a few years ago).

So it should be possible to find someone able to recone them.

If USD/Speakerworks is only 45 mintues away......you should be spending every possible minute you can over there talking to those guys. Wealth of knowledge there. They were the "first" to do several things in cars (kickpanels, horns, etc) and also built some of the most winningest cars to hit the SQ lanes.

Hey don, I know a local shop in the P-town swapmeet guy does recones for any sub, and can get JL parts as well. He quoted me 200 to recone a 13'' w7 with 2 week waiting period to get parts from JL.

Called up USD and they said it can't be reconed to a 15. They mentioned they don't do recones either and to either throw away the sub or send it to JL to get fixed (I guess he assumed the sub was blown).

dont do recones at all? or just on JL subs? I had tried them as well for a 13w6v2, and was rejected. But i thought they still did other brands. oh well.
