Here, please look at these:

12W3v3

13W3v2

12W3 - 300w rms

13W3 - 400w rms

12W3 - 13mm Xmax

13W3 - 15.5mm Xmax

12W3 - Sd=80.6 sq in

13W3 - Sd=103.85 sq in

12W3 = 40.19 cubic inches of air moved per cycle at full excursion (0.02 cu-ft).

13W3 = 62.29 cubic inches of air moved per cycle at full excursion (0.036 cu-ft).

That's not enough of a difference to do squat. Especially in that pre-fab box you have.

Oh, and your current 12W3's will be able to handle a 500/1 each.... if and when you get your amps tuned correctly.

If you want to stick with JL and see a real change, why not trade in for a single 13W7 and a 1000/1?

RMS = 1000W

Xmax = 32mm

Sd = 107.35 sq in

Air volume moved = 135.26 cubic inches per cycle at full excursion (0.078 cu-ft).

Now that's a huge difference.

ive already looked into that. it would be a bigger difference. but, then i would have to pay $600 out of my pocket to upgrade to the 13w7, plus get another 500/1 amp for it, or just trade in my 500 and get 1000/1.

its cheaper the way im going.

ya a 13w7 would be tight and it would hit nice and low. maybe when i get out of college or something and have a job on my own ill do that.

Well that's just it right there.... the Fi is cheaper. And since I already posted volume output at max excursion and it's slightly better than even the almighty be-all-end-all 13W7, I'd probably still go with Fi. Oh, and not to mention that there's not been a lot of unhappy posts from Fi Q owners.

But, like I stated, it's strictly my opinion.

why would it be 600 out of pocket on your "upgrade." When you can get it on ebay for 600 off ebay?

Yeah I agree with you flip. I don't think theres anything wrong at all with JL... they make an amazing product, and they sound awesome and have some nice features. It just annoys me to hell and back when people are like "I use JL because its the best in the world, and nothing sounds better, and I know nothing else about audio other than JL is the besssstttttt!!!11!1"

Oh, I absolutely understand your point of view. But yeah, when price gets into the mix.....

JL makes very good quality subs that are capable of some very decent performance IMO, but I really feel as if there's just so many comparable or even better options out there for less money.

It's the fanboi's that won't even consider anything else, let alone take the advice of others trying to help them out with their current equipment to actually get the results they think they're going to get not from an upgrade, but moreso from a lateral transition in equipment and spend more money doing it.

coming from a guy who has a "competition" lightning audio sound system

i'd be hatin on JL audio too, if i had anything made by "bolt" or Clarion. I'd be hating on all the big boys - RE, JL, JBL, Alpine, Kicker, etc they all cost too much.
