JL Audio W7/ W6 choosing

I have several JL subs that are older than members on this forum. I've never had a problem with them. But I also don't set out to hammer the crap out of my stuff. I also understand the idea of mechanical power handling, a concept that it appears escapes some.
I don't set out to hammer any of my gear I am just saying I must have had bad luck. I am sure people on hear have had bad luck with some good products before. But don't assume that I am some young nut hanger out clipping the hell out of my gear cause I don't roll like that. Besides I am 36 and been in this game for 20 years and in fact I have never blew any of the JL's or any other sub for that matter even the W7 still worked I just repaired it and sent it down the road. I think it's just all the people around St. Louis have JL that's all I hear I like stuff thats not mainstream. That's just me but to each his own I guess.

Don't get me wrong either, I'm not at all against the internet brands. I own stuff from RE Audio (before they were part of US Amps), Ascendant Audio, Sundown, Stereo Integrity, Hybrid Audio Technologies and some others. IMO most of the mainstream stuff sounds like CRAP. I don't judge equipment by how loud it gets, placing me firmly in the minority on most all of the car audio sites. I judge it solely on how it sounds. Going back to my previous statement that pretty much rules most of the mainstream stuff out as far as I'm concerned. JL is the one exception that I have noticed. The only reason that I'm not planning to put JL subs in the new truck is that I don't have the room.

I didn't mean to imply that you intentionally beat the hell out of your stuff. Most of the people that complain about JL do just that, though.

The w7 isn't a sq woofer.. While it has a fairly flat bl curve and low power compression it lacks alot more..

I can easily get a 250 dollar woofer to ge as loud and sound better than a w7 for starters the shi a x2 in a 1.35 pr alignment with 1k will walk all over the w6 or w7 in every measurable category..

Ml isn't bad by any means they do what they srt out to do provide the general public great products..

I would use jl's amps they really are top notch...

The w3 and w6 aren't bad but clearly they have specific woofers for specific applications where in other products are better suited..

Have you checked the measured distortion of the W7 series? Many people don't LIKE the way they sound because they sound sterile thanks to the extremely low distortion resulting from the flat Bl curve. People had the same complaints about the old XBL^2 subs as well. Output is not part of the equation. There are tons of subs that can get louder and maybe a handful that can match the lack of distortion, none of which cost less. The ShivaX might fall into the former category, but not the latter.
