JL Audio Component Speakers

I have a question concerning component speakers.Well here it goes. I was wondering if the Evolution C5-650 by JL Audio is in the same league as Focal and MB Quart. I know these speakers are German built and when I called JL Audio's engineering department the representative that I spoke with had a lot of good things to say about them namely that they have excellent midbass response and the tweeter is a silk dome which in his opinion is superior to titanium or metal tweeters. I have listened to both Focal and MB Quart and they both sounded far better than most car speakers. And not to say that MB Quart is better than Focal but I went to a local dealer and listened to the premium line and I could not believe my ears these speakers were astonishingly clear. At that time the Sales rep said that MB Quart makes the best speakers hands down. Although when I went back to the store a few months later to purchase these speakers they said they no longer carry MB Quart because there quality went down and they only carry JL Audio which they said is a better speaker. I have something to get off my chest when I listened to the MB Quart speakers they were being powered by a JL Audio slash series amp and for all those out there that say JL Audio is overhyped B.S. they make some very good stuff if not the best, No its not cheap in price by the standards of mainstream audio equip and on the same hand its not so expensive that only the well heeled can afford it but it is an extremely good product as far as amps go. Again maybe you get what you pay for.

The C5's, in essence, are what the XR's should have been from the start. The woofer (Along with the ZR) is light years ahead of their other component sets because they are basically engineered, designed, and built like their subwoofers. Prior to the C5's and ZR that hadn't happened. And the Silk dome tweeter is smoother than an aluminum or metal tweeter, but still very crisp (Think VR's. Same tweeter)

They have two main features and engineering points of the W7 and W6 (which much of has been passed on down to the W3 and even some stuff to the W1)

DMA optimized motor

elevated frame cooling

Add into that the quality of the materials (Kurt Muller Woofers and suspension parts, Butyl rubber surround) and hand assembled in Germany.

I've heard them once and really, really liked them. I have owned all VR's up to this point, and have now gotten 5x7 C5's for my install going down next month. I liked the XR's but the tweeters were a bit too harsh for my liking. Now with a better woofer and silk tweeter, the C5's are the perfect blend of XR and VR for my liking.

MB Quart is also a top notch speaker. They are one of the original great sounding car audio loudspeakers and they continue to make a great product.

They only way to really know which one is better for you, is to sample them both with some music you know real well and decide. When it comes to accurate sound reproduction, clarity, and some pretty decent output as well, the C5's do it for me.

I have to agree with you on alot of what you said.I do believe JL makes some very nice sounding speakers.I have a pair of 5x7's and some 6.5's in my wifes car along with an Audiobahn amp,and Ill say this,it sounds very cleaneven at high volumes.

Ive never heard the Focals, but I agree with the MB Quart statement.I heard the Premium line as well as the Reference and they are very clean and clear.Very, very spacious sounding.I havent heard them at loud volumes and some say they are a little harsh.I dont know about that though.

MB Quart FTW i have old about 5 years ago MB Quart Speakers this is the pinnacle of MB Quart now that maxxonics owns them they have gotten cheaper components if u look at the q line components or even premium or reference crossovers from 5 years ago and compare them to today you will be like holy shit. Today's MB Quart is not nearly as good. Good but not really good. I love old mb quart and that is all i run and it sounds really really good i just got done deadening and stuff and hope to post pictures soon.
