JL Audio Amp/sub combo won’t turn on (not usual problem?)

Hello all,

Novice to intermediate audiophile here hoping for some help. Purchased a used JL Audio Powered 10” MicroSub+ today. The previous owner had just purchased a corvette to use as a track build and the car came with this system. He said he hadn’t had luck powering it up but admittedly didn’t know much about car audio. Based on the price tag, I felt it was definitely worth the gamble. To save some time and headache, I took it by the local audio shop to let them do a “bench test”. They said they couldn’t get the amp to power on and no lights came on. (External green LED or Red if it’s in protect mode)

I didn’t really want to just leave it at that and take my losses so I come home and dig into the system. From all my visual inspections the sub and coils look brand new. Somewhat expected since it seems like the issue is with the amp rather than the sub. So then I dig into the amp and take it completely apart. Everything again looks completely normal.....no blown fuses, no burnt coils or transistors, etc. See pics below.

So my questions are
1. Even if the amp is in fact “blown” wouldn’t/shouldn’t the external LED lights still come on and just no sound come out?
2. what should I look for next? Seems like it could be a simple fix since it’s a power issue and not necessarily a no sound issue.
3. where do I go from here?

Maybe that vette got flooded and that's why he's turning it into a track car. Don't waste too much time or money trying to fix it. Get a normal amp and by-pass the module. That's what I'd do.

I saw the vette. It was pretty dang nice. Would be surprised if it had been flooded. Not to mentioned, there haven’t been any floods in our area anytime in the last few decades. Thanks for the feedback though.

You dont always need mother nature to flood a car. Stupid kids are a force to be reckoned with.
