I have an 8w7 in my g500 and it basically matches the output of my older (.5 inch throw) infinity perfect 10, but it's feels like it has flatter response with smoother and less tense in the upper frequencies.

Needs kinda big sealed box by most standard, but this sure has nice low extention. I chose the woofer becasue i wanted a box less than 1 cube and it needed to use an 8' driver for mounting location because a 10 wouldn't fit... otherwise i'd a saved my money and kept the 10 i had. It does exactly what i wanted it to do. Pain in the butt making a full coverage grill for it though because it moves alot! I'm happy with it but didn't pay full price... $280 i think from lightAV but it took a while.

i heard a few 8w7 installs..liked em all..gets loud for an 8 and its pretty clear. they were all ported too.

I had one, give it more than the jl recommended 250/1 amp. It will take more.

I think that they get loud and sound good but due to their mounting depth and box size requirements you would be almost better off getting a 10 inch sub that could fit in that same size enclosure. IMO

yeah, they're super deep. I ended up mounting it on the end of a long skinny sealed box... that's where they're useful when 1 or two sides of the box are restricted. It's sits under my side facing jump seats and fires back toward the rear door. My amp could give it 375 watts rms, but it gets loud enough i haven't kept pushing it till something makes funny noises. House mates can hear it in the house when i drive up, so it's loud enough in the car. I think it would be a mean little ported speaker because it's ported size box isn't much bigger unlike many, but i'm a space freak and the infinity 10 actually fits into a smaller box sealed... but that may just be what they "say" since it played more tense... maybe it didn't get to breath too well or would have sounded better in a sealed box.

If i hadn't already started the project, i'd have been tempted to try mounting 3 Tang Band 6.5's in my rear door or under the rear seats. They make some that are surprisingly long throw... about 3 to get the displacement of the 8w7. THen it wouldn't take any space... but i might not get the low extension.
