Hey I just picked up a 12w3v1 D4 and I'm wondering how much power I should throw it and what kind/size box (ported or sealed).

throw it 400 watts

1 cubic foot sealed, 1.5 cubic foot ported.

iirc, the factory spesc for that 12 are a 1.75ucft box with a 4"port around 20"long.

there rated at 250w rms so 400 should be fine. you can also use the box specs from the new 13w3v3's.
