JL 500/1 problem

I just installed a JL Class D 500/1 just powering one 10 W3D4.

I was running some hand me down amp just barely and it was louder! I can not figure out how to tune it correctly. I've got a line converter on the head unit signal... everything is wired correctly. Just not nearly as loud as I know it should be. I'm installing it into my rx8...

Any suggestions on what I should do now?

I feel your pain. I own an '04 6s and many people have had problems running sub/amp off of the stock HU wiring via LOC. First thing I would check on your JL is to try and turn up your gains a little bit. It could be that the old hand me down amp had its gains set while your new JL does not. Gains makes a BIG difference in these cars. Do you have the stock system or the Bose btw?

Go to the jl audio web site and download the manual for the JL audio 500/1. I had a similar problem with barely any power seeming to come from the amp.

Follow the guideline for setting gain, I made the mistake of thnking in DC. Output (and gain) is measured in AC.

Also, as instruction book will say, start with "up to 2volt input" no matter how much you believe your HU is putting out.
