jl 12w6v2 tuning frequency?

i have a single 12w6v2 in jl's prowedge enclosure. just wondering what other ppl running this setup have theirs tuned to. i'm running it off a jl 500/1 and have the amp set to 45hz right now with a Q of 1.2 (no bass boost). it sounds pretty good but can get kind of muddy on some songs.

W6 works best in larger sealed boxes.

The Q setting does not matter if the bass boost is set to zero. Neither does the center frequency of the bass boost. I assume this is what you mean when you say the amp is set to 45Hz.

I 2nd that 12w6s sound best in sealed enclosures. Ported will work but I've tried both and sealed, while not as efficient, really lets them shine.

so what do ppl mean when they say their sub is "tuned" to xx hertz? are they referring strictly to the enclosure size?

No, enclosure tuning does not referring to the size of the enclosure.

Enclosure tuning refers to using a port to tune the enclosure itself to a certain frequency. Port area relative to the volume of the box determines the box's tuned frequency.

You can find loads of information on the 'net by googling about ported enclosures.

Just above the tuned frequency ported enclosures will see an increase in output. Below the tuned frequency ported enclosure's response drops dramatically. Most people tune near 32 Hz for daily driving setups.
