JL 12w3 Enclosure Help (First box build)

Hey guys, I never built a box to specs before, I usually just threw them into a box or built any shaped box that fit.

Anyway.

Im helping my friend build a box to spec for his 12w3. I got these dimensions off of the jl site

First question is...Are these good dimensions? And my other question is, whats with that port? Is the inside of the port also supposed to only be 12 inches in height seeing as the opening is only 12 inches and the box is 14 inches high? Or is the port opening only 12 inches, then inside the port is 14 inches?

Im still figuring this stuff out so dont be too hard on me, we all have to start somwhere, haha.

The slot height is 12.5" because the top and bottom piece take up 1.5 inches of the external height of 14". The internal height of the port and box is 12.5"

You are probably better off having someone design a box for you that will fit in your space, whether it be a trunk or hatch, etc.

Its a jeep so it will just sit inside how it is.

The recommended enclosure is alright, but it wouldn't hurt to go a little larger. JL usually recommends ported boxes a bit on the small side which will typically yield a flatter response but sacrifice a bit of output. With the 12w3 you could use around 2 cubes and get a slightly more efficient enclosure. I agree with psych0ticnemes1, your best bet is to have someone design the box to fit your desired space.

Im going to go with building an enclosure with 2 cubes as recommended but what should the port be tuned to? originally with the 1.75 cube box it would be 30hz. What would it be with the 2 cube box?

need answer asap please, and thanks for the recommendations.
