JL 10TW3-D4 Sealed Box Air Space

Hey guys, question on these subs that I can’t seem to find on the internet anywhere. I purchased a vehicle specific box for a 2016 Chevy Silverado made by Atrend . This is a sealed box with 0.8 cubic ft volume. I originally purchsed the 10 W3v3 because the box said it had a 6.25 mounting depth but that definitely was not true when I received it and they didn’t fit. I’m returning those and going to buy the 10TW3-D4’s but these subs only require 0.5 cubic ft.

Is the extra 0.3 cubic ft going to hurt the subs, affect sound, or any other issues? I’ve heard a lot of people put subs in a larger than spec box but i’m sure there is a point where too much is a bad thing. What is that point?

Nope you'll be fine. Sealed boxes are very forgiving.

Yea you should be fine. .5 is pretty small for a 10 anyways, so it should work out well for you.

These trucks are kinda hard to fit anything good under the seat. I have a 18 sierra crew cab

I probably should have added this to the original post but my biggest concern is when I spec’d out my system I bought two 10 W3v3 2ohm subs which are 500 watts RMS each so I bought the Rockford Fosgate P1000X1BD which is 1000 watt RMS at 1 ohm. It was a perfect match if i run them in parallel.

The 10TW3-D4 are only 400 watt RMS so now the amp is a bit over kill. I’ve seen some posts saying if you put subs in a larger box than spec it needs less power to run them since they’ll be less resistance and can max out on excursion easier. 

Do think it’d be worth adding wood inside the box to get closer to spec or is it really so minor that it won’t matter?

Don't add anything... and I will be the first to say... the amp will still be fine. You will need to properly adjust/set the gain just like you would/should for any sub/amp/speaker.
