JL 1000.1 running hot, why?

Well I took the cap off, and other than it sounding a *tad* louder (maybe, maybe not, could be imagining things) it still gets too **** hot and goes into thermal mode.

I also unplugged and turned off the bass boost.

Any other ideas?

I skimmed through the posts but the first thing i can tell you is loose the cap... Something about the jl amps and caps ..?? ive seen a few setups do the same .. loose the cap and it got better at the least ..second the 13w7 is either 1.5 or 3 ohms at the ampthat should be no problem... 3rd . i ran my 1000/1 hard daily to my12w7 and have NEVER had a problem off my stock electrical.. All i had was a new interstate batt..

Even under heavy clipping ( i no its dumb to say) but still i never had a problem, and even at idle i was holding 11+ volts.. 12.5 (avg) at 2k rpm....
I believe the problem with JL amps and caps is the RIPS system on the slash series

i did not know that, i'll see if meijer has an ohmmeter and buy one right now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well i turned the input sens down to like 30%, and it now plays without going into thermal protection. It def isnt as loud, but at least it doesnt cut down the power.

Should this be neccesary to do on my car? I dont think i'm getting any voltage spikes, so i guess its the amp that is the culprit.

How do I go about moving the amp to the back seat floor? Should I redo the ground so its closer to the amp? Also, the reason i think the back seat floor will work better is because there is an hvac duct there, so i'll just keep it on all the time to keep the amp cool.
