Jig Saw

I was at home depot today and I saw a Dewalt Jig Saw and Orbital Sander package for $100. Would a jig saw produce adequate cuts for making a box? There is a jig jaw guide there so I'm not worried about straight cuts, just in terms of the cut itself.

i own a router, but i still use a jigsaw to cut out all of my spear holes....

p.s.- a router isnt anything without a jasper jig, (as far as cutting out circles...i just dont feel like spending 30$ for something i can do half as good with a jigsaw)

In short, no. Even with the guide the cuts will not come out that great. They're only good for the circle cut-out.

A jigsaw blade is relatively small, heat builds up quick and you'll probably end up burning the wood.

Not to mention it will take an excruciating amount of time.
