Hi,

I'm putting a budget system into my car. The car is a 1968 Camaro with a very loud engine and exhaust.

So far I've got:

Kenwood Excelon X599 HU - $120

Kenwood Excelon 6.5 in the front (KFC-X173) - 80W RMS - $60

Kenwood Excelon 6x9 in the rear (KFC-X693) - 130W RMS - $80

I'm choosing between these amps:

- Jensen DUBa4100 - 60W RMS per channel @ 4 ohms - $90

- Pioneer GM-A6604 - 70W RMS per channel @ 4 ohms - $100

- Rockford Fosgate R300x4 - 50W RMS per channel @ 4 ohms - $112

- Precision Power i320.4 PPI - 60W RMS per channel @ 4 ohms - $100

- JBL GX-A604 - 60W RMS per channel @ 4 ohms - $110

I need some help deciding. My amp budget is a firm $100. I don't really need an amp that will push the speakers to their limit. So the 60W vs 70W difference between the amps isn't a huge deal. The Rockford has the least power at 50W and it is the most expensive. I'm concerned about which amp has a better reputation and overall quality.

The Jensen has 100 dB SNR while the Pioneer has only 78 dB. But then again, the Pioneer spec is CEA2006 and the Jensen isn't so I don't think it is an apple to apple compare.

So which one would you choose? Would you suggest a different amp that's in my $100 budget? I've found great deals for all of my stuff on Amazon.

Another point worth noting is that I'm trying to find an amplifier that is in the same "class" as my speakers. From what I can tell, the speakers are slightly above entry level but not considered "competition" speakers. So I'm not looking for an amp that is way better than my speakers (and obviously not an amp that is worse).

FYI, there is no sub in the plan currently. But the HU has 6 preamp outputs so I'll be wired to add an additional amp and sub in the future.

Thanks,

Sal

Look around on here for a four channel if you don't mind used. You can more than likely find something much better for around $100, I just got a nice 4 ch. for $120 a couple weeks ago.

The Jensen is accurately rated -- CEA cert is 70x4.

Given your budget and needs I think the Jensen would be the best option.

The enthusiast crowd is generally anti-Jensen, but the few professional reviews I've seen of Jensen over the years have all been positive.

im going to suggest you take the time to put some sound dampener on your firewall, doors, and rear wall by the exhaust to mitigate some of that engine and exhaust noise. a few hours and less than $100 can make a big difference
