JBL GTO-1001EZ Amp LP Issues?

I have to run this amp in the H1 setting, if I flip it down to LP it slams but is hot to touch after 15 minutes. The gain is only up about 15%. Running a single 12 rated @ 1000 watts rms @ 2ohms. Does anyone have any experience with this amp? It looses a lot of power when switched to h1 but overheats in LP.

I had it professionally installed and they set the gain, but it's barely turned up. I had an NVX VCW hooked up to it and within 15 minutes the dustcap was broken off. I'm wondering if I need a higher powered sub. I saw the 500 watt ez amp dyno test @ over 800 watts. Could the sub cause this?

I have mine set on a Fi Q 15 at 2.8 ohms. Keep in mind that these amps are pretty deceiving. I want to clamp mine and see what it actually puts out. But the vcws are known for having dust caps fly off.

I've never used jbl products before but I got this amp new for cheap. My last system was a l7 15 in a custom box with a ZX1500.1 amp (my wife made me get rid of it because it took up my whole trunk) and this jbl seemed to be putting out more than the kicker amp. I wish I could hook it up and have it dyno tested to get the true RMS and peak, I can tell when a sub is being pushed passed its limits and I have no doubt that I could have easily smoked that "2000" watt peak sub with the jbl 1000 watt amp.

These amplifiers make it dead simple to set them up correctly. If it sounds good now you're not going to notice if you were to manage to get a few more watts out of it, until you smoke the subwoofer, which you definitely WILL notice.

They probably did but that NVX sub was still junk. I won't have a problem setting up the amp once I get new subs, the issue I'm having now is I don't know if I should go with a 1 or 2 sub setup and what sub's to even get! My wife has me on a budget for this system which makes it even harder..... I wish I would have went with a 1ohm stable amp instead of this mystery wattage jbl. Maybe I'll just get a SQ HDS 315 and call it a day.
