jbl 15inch sub

i just picked up a jbl gto d-2 sub. i know its not great at all but i was told the sub can take more then the 300rms it says it can handle.Would any one have a idea what this sub can handle at one ohm? I was thinkin sending 500 watts to this sub.
i used to work at a small shop before i deployed last, and we sold JBL, there was a guy that bought one and had it powered with a jbl gto 600w amp, and he went through 3 before he decided to get something else. i would say be careful. you might check out the power series or the GTI series if you want more power.
