jbl 1200.1 is screwed

i had been using it on my home sub for a while until my new subs came in and everything was working fine. when i got my subs, i hooked them up in free-air for a few minutes just to make sure they worked. they played fine, then i unhooked the speaker wires. they could have touched together, but the radio was turned off. the next morning, i put the home sub back in and there was no sound. the fuse at the battery was blown, but the fuses on the amp where fine. i replaced the fuse and again it blew as soon as i turned it on (btw, both times the vol. was set at 0). after that, i checked all the wiring to make sure the power wire hadn't grounded out. i didn't find anything, but i put padding on any possible problem areas. i replaced the fuse again, but this time, the fuse didn't blow, but the amp started smoking. is something wrong with my wiring or did i just get a bad amp? also, how much do you think it would cost to fix? thanx

you could have a too small of fuse...the smallest u want for a jbl 1200 is 130amp

What kind of padding are you talking about? If you're talking about like foam padding inside of it, then you just fuucked yourself, foam padding is conductive and combustable. Good job.

Just a question regarding the peps around here.. Why is it that everyone wants, has to have or has a jbl amp of some kind but says that jbl products are shitty and any other cheep a** brand could blow them away ?? I havent understood that yet... Do they think they have to talk bad about jbl becuse they know it is top of the line stuff?? just wondering

JBL is one of the more favoured amplifiers talked about on this board. They are cheap and provide their rated power. As far as their other components are concerned (various drivers) I haven't seen anyone say that Pyramid, Legacy, Boss or any other "cheap a$$" brand names could blow them away. I myself have heard just about enough of you pushing JBL, Infinity, and whatever else when you're ignorant of other brands. That kind of talk helps no one on the board. You can say you like them just fine, just stop saying they are the end all and be all of car audio components, because simply put, they are not.

bravo my good man, just what many people ahve been waiting to say...

noone here really dislikes the JBL powervalve amps (generally) they are the best amp out there for the money....

most people do not like other products of theirs for various reasons...

just like someone not liking RF's subs because they are too **** ugly sounding, but loving their HU's or Amps, ... etc.e etc.

I only push the subject about them becuse every one has some smart a@@ remark they want to say about them so I push them more.. acctually I think they are the best there is as in Sq while still having good spl. I favor though for spl levels I favor Jl and most of all though Audiobahn.. So dont think my "crap" to say isnt all nothing but Jbl and Infinity..

Show me examples of members of this board giving smart a$$ comments about JBL, Infinity, or RF? People say they don't prefer them, or even like them. Is that justification for being a "smart a$$"?

Yes, my god yes, we know you favour JBL's sound quality. As far as your SPL favourites, it boggles my mind why you would choose JL and Audiobahn over such big names as Kove, Digital Designs, and Mmats, but to each his own, I suppose.

Obviously I was making a generalization to which particular brands you seem to endorse. However, I have not seen a post where you have built up JL or Audiobahn as you have with the other name brands. Maybe I just haven't been looking hard enough.

Ma... and AUdiobahn isnt something id take to comp but still it is a preferd speaker for reliability that some products dont have even jbl has a series the Loud and Clear that isnt reliable so thats why I like audiobahn.. DOnt blow easy like JL and some rockfards.l

hehehe, this si getting interesting, JL can take almost any number of watts taht you throw at them..

Heck those W7's could probably take any amp out tehre....

Audiobahn is anything but reliable, it osunds liek a fart and looks like a gangbangers neck...

other than taht... and about your comment where you ahvent seen people endorse certain brands, each brand is suited to differnt things... Audiobahn, if you want a relatively caheap loud sub, go for it, but askl Rangerman, dont throw more tahn the RMs at it,,, also, dont go with them if you want SQ.. JBL, get their amps, you will see people pushing their amps suprisingly hard, I am getting the 1200.1 for myself in fact... but I ahve yet to talk to someone who enjoyed their JBL speakers at all, let alone as much as you seem to...

Anywyas, just My opinion
