Ok after I purchase a head unit im setting up my system

I currently have

1 Rockford Fozgate 400M Sub Amp

1 Rockford Fozgate ????? 4 Channel Amp

1 MTX Crossover

1 .5 Farad Monster capactior (not in diagram)

4 Stock 6.5" Clarion speakers (im changing fronts to components later)

1 10" MA Audio Sub in a ported box

I Just sketched a rough diagram of what I think the wiring would be like, it doesn't include power/ground/remote lines. lemmie know if this is right

I was wondering about that, which is why I posted this. I haven't actually bought the components yet and ive never installed any. So I dont need the active crossover? just the ones that come with components? Id need a deck that has seperate pre-outs for sub and front/rear control then so i can seperate all the high/mid/low frequencies right? thanks for help.. other then that its hooked up right?

heres another question. Should everything have seperate grounds? ive gotten different answers.

Disregard the above post because it isn't correct.

Your setup is correct as sketched.

The setup as drawn is pretty much the most typical type of quality setup. The acive crossover divides the frequencies between amps. The highs go to the high freq amp. The lows go to the sub amp. After the signal leaves the high amp it has to be further divided between the mids and tweets. That is where the passive unit comes in. Having an acitve crossover cannot magically affect the signal after it goes through the amp. If you have drivers wired to the same amp channel that need to see different freqs (i.e. a mid/tweet combo from a component set), any active crossover can only affect the channel as a whole and does you no further good. Any filtering affects both dirvers equally. If you need further division, a passive is the only way to go. If you want to create an active front stage, you have to have an individual amp channel for each driver and an active crossover than can divide the frequencies up as needed before the amps.

If your HU has separate outputs for sub and highs, it should have the active crossover that you need built in. Ground everything together if possible.

Active Xover is not needed in his instance unless the sub amp does not have a built in LPF and the componet amp does not have a built in HPF...

Most amps today have that...in fact, many 4 chanel amps today can be ran as active amps with out the need for an external active Xover...the difference is slopes and adjustability are often more limited.

Im buying one next week which is why im figuring this all out now, I like the Pioneer DEH-P680MP but im gonna look at some eclipse decks.. im looking to spend around $250-$300 canadian if anyone has more recommondations. Ive had 3 JVC decks and 1 Sony, I didn't like the JVCs because they were all flash and no substance aside from the El Kameleon which was awesome. The Sony which I got last was actually pretty awesome for a sony.

As for the crossover debate.. It may not be needed but I have it and it provides a lot of control so should I use it anyways, does it effect SQ? the deck im looking at has filter on it and pre-outs.

Everything looks good except for some of the terms you used. It's spelled Fosgate, and their Mono amps end with bd. For example, the 1500 watt mono block fosgate amp is called 1500bd, and so on. Good luck with the system //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
