Is this bad? Is this bad?

build a new box, hoser.
I dont have the technology or the steady hand to pull off a procedure like that so HA! lol....no but seriously I wouldnt know where to begin. My installer buddy thought I was kidding when I told him I could get a box built to spec for $200 + ship. So im guessing he wouldve charged way more than that.

Yeah man, installers are dicks, I've heard of shops charging $500 for a "custom" enclosure. And believe me, I never thought I could build my own box until I tried (and my wife got me a table saw for Christmas lol). It's so easy, just do some research on formulas to find square feet and correct port sizes and it's a breeze!!

now thats funny

seeing as you're in BC prices are probably the same as here, about $25 for a sheet of 4'x8'MDF. Glue, caulking for the inside edges, and screws for about another $10. The cool thing is that most places that sell sheets of MDF will actually cut it for you if you have dimensions. I know the CO-OP here charges $0.50 a cut so after everything I usually pay about $35 to $40 for everything, all said and done.

holy crap thats dirt cheap! Would home depot have mdf? Or would i need to go to a specialty shop?

For some reason Home Depot here doesn't cut MDF. I'd say hit a Rona or a Totem and they'll most likely do it. Or like I said, if you have CO-OP's in BC they'll do it, that's where I get my MDF.

only home depots and rona in my area. time to start reading up on box building threads lol

Yeah, try the Rona, they should be able to do it. I think it might be a chain thing because I've never heard about Home Depot cutting MDF. I was told they have a policy because MDF dust is bad to breathe in or some other crap like that.

ohhh i see, ill go today and see if they even have it

They should, they have it here in Red Deer so you shouldn't have a problem. One thing I forgot, you'll need a jigsaw to cut the holes for the speakers. If you don't have one, someone you know probably will, they're a common tool.
