Is this amp a good match for two type-R's??

I just ordered two alpine type-rs and was getting the alpine mrd-m1005 amp, but the sales guy told me to get the In Phase IPA 2400.

He said the mono mrd-m1005 would only give 300W to each sub, whereas the two channel In-phase amp would give 550W per sub. So i ordered the Inphase-IPA-2400.

Do you reckon the type-r subs can handle 50W each over their RMS ratings without getting damaged?

Hmm Now i think about it, i am trying to figure out if 550W to each channel is correct.

The specs of the amp are -

Max. Supply current (sum of all channels @13.8VDC 4Ω) = 4800W

Max. output (MONO @4Ω) = 1200W

Rated Output Power = 200W x 2(RMS)

Bridge Power Output = 700W x 1 (4ohm RMS)

And according to the website which i bought it from, it gives into 2 channels 980W ('The IPA2400 which gives phenomenal power into 2 channels 980RMS')

I have two type-r's with Dual 4ohm Voice Coils.

Now how do you get 550W from that? They will be wired to 2Ω right?, so am i missing something here or not?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Im sure i worked it out a while ago but it was a while ago lol

Doesn't look like there's a manual available on line for that amp.

Personally I would have recommended the dvc 2 type R's with the 1005 - that would give you the option to wire a 2 ohm load which would have given you 500w+ for each sub.

With that 2400 -- It's a basic 2 ch bridgable to 4 ohms, right? I would wire them together for 4 ohms and bridge the amp. Slightly preferable to each sub at 2 ohms on its own channel.

Too bad there's not a manual available for it on line.

I had to get the Dual 4Ωs because it was a package deal.

But I though it was better not to bridge because i have been told that it reduces quality or something?

stress on the amp is the same whether you run at 2 ohms stereo or 4 ohms mono.

and stereo/mono signal doesn't matter in the sub woofer frequencies. If it did mono amps wouldn't exist.

I prefer bridging (mono) because there will inherently be slight differences in output between stereo channels - mono eliminates that. Realistically not going to make much difference though. So whatever works for you.
