There has to be a combination of both. Some people seem to think just because a rapper used 8-10 letter words they are somehow intelligent or a great rapper even if they're not really saying anything. My generation has seriously done a lot of damage to what should be considered music. Not saying that there's no good new music but there's just sooooo much bad music to weed through and it doesn't help that it's all on the radio.I think rap is about delivery, you can have complex lyrics but if you can't deliver it then it has zero impact. I'd rather listen to random rambles that have great delivery than weak flow and impact.
I own almost no songs from the radio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gifThere has to be a combination of both. no, but you don't have to rip off heads to be good either.so do you like bubble gum or lollipops with your rap ?
Dre's 2001 is probably the best album I've ever heard. It doesn't beat but is just fantastic.good songs come from diggin in the crates of 12" vinyl
In my opinion you do. IF you dont have to have complex lyrics or rhyme schemes to be a rapper then anyone who can rhyme a few 3 letter words can be a rapper. That makes a little kid reading Dr.Suess a rapper, hell that makes Dr.Suess a rapper. You don't have to have complex lyrics or rhyme schemes to be a good rapper //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
I never said that there needs to be 8-10 letter words for a rapper to be intelligent. ITs about content, context of the content, delivery, word play, complexity. That is what a real rapper/MC/lyricist is. Everyone else is just an entertainer. IMO.There has to be a combination of both. I agree with this, Tech, Dre, and lots of others are true rappers and then Lil Wayne as such are entertainers, but I'm cool with that. I like being entertained. In my opinion you do. Thats cool if you believe that. Im not going to argue with you but he hasnt changed at all, he sucks now and he sucked then.Lil Wayne just recently became an entertainer.
Carter 1,2 Dedication 1,2 Drought 3, Prefix, Suffix all classics and real hip-hop
Being complex and having content are totally different things. There are rappers like U.G.K and Snoop who aren't the most lyrical but they're great. And part of being a rapper is being an entertainer. I don't want to go to some boring concert with someone sitting on a chair spitting sick lyrics. If every rapper was the same rap would be extremely boring. You have to be versatile. That's why a lot of rappers who do nothing but have deep goo lyrics don't get well known. You have to be able to make club songs, love songs, and just some feel good music. In my opinion you do. I love how Drake get's into his music, you can really tell he loves performing.Being complex and having content are totally different things. On a side note, that Drake VMA performance was sick. Mary J. Blige was awesome
He has never made anything that can be considered classic material. He's not bad but he's nowhere near as good as some people seem to think he is. I respect his work ethic but being on 20 different records on the radio means nothing to me if every verse is mediocre. One of the main problems I'm seeing a lot with todays rappers is that nobody writes anymore. They just do it on the spot and the songs end up having no subject at all. Just them talking about a bunch of randomness. But I like a lot of new artists like Wale, J.Cole, Love Kid Cudi and B.O.B, Currency, Wiz, and some more. They actually put some pride into the music they like and you can tell they enjoy it and aren't in it purely to make money.Lil Wayne just recently became an entertainer.
