i just got 3 10 inch jl w3v2s and right now am not that impressed with how little low bass they can hit. They are powered by a JL 500/1 Amp that has plenty to power them but i sometimes listen to rap and it doesnt hit some of the notes and sounds kind of like the subs are farting...is this becasue they are brand new and need to break in or what....im open to suggestions....just dont be stupid and say its the amp becasue the amp is plenty powerfull for those little subs...

Do you know what you have started... once again? Search and you will find all kinds of theories.

500watts going to 3 jl10w3's......is not alot of power.....i got 600watts going to my jl10w3 and it loves it......u need 1200-1500watts if really ant to see what those 10w3's r made of.........dont be scared to push them....they can handle that kind of power.....i had my sub play 600watts for 3 years now....and its still wanging like it was brand new

No, my sub sounds the same as it always has //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif break-in is all lies!
the break in on my sub was insane, i bet it took 3 months but there was a huge difference, HUGE

also, what kind of box are these 3 w3's in? how big?

the subs bottoming out at low frequencies have nothing to do with the break in, it sounds like if its a ported box, its tuned really hi, and ifs its sealed its to small

Some subs change with time, some subs don't, it depends on design and the materials used in the suspention.

Is a breakin required?

Well there is really no way to avoid breaking in a sub as it it will start to break in the moment you play it. so no.

So long as you have a box that is right for the woofer and your amp power is within the thermal limits of the voice coil you can pound on it right from the start.

Psychoacoustics pwnz j00:yumyum:

Break in period is basically taking into consideration the time a sub spent on a shelf without the suspension/motor seeing any action...not nescessarily that it will change in sound over time, just precausionary to prevent premature failure of playing it too hard.

Kinda the concept of a good stretch prior to running a couple of miles.
