is my IDMAX in a too small box?

So I took my 12" rl-p out of a 2cu ft. tuned @28hz box, and put in my 12" idmax. the rl-p hit the lows better than the idmax by a decent margin. is this too small of a box? Personally I like the sound of the MAX in a sealed box,just not loud enough.Oh ya, both were fed 1000 rms w/ a US amps ax1000
