I have a Pioneer head unit and Clarion eq wired to the same positive wire and the same ground wire. I had recently installed an old Kenwood 2-channel amp to power 2 12'' Jensen Power subs. I wired the positive wire to the + battery and I grounded the amp to the chasis in my trunk. I also used the same turn on lead as the eq. I used the RCA cables from the eq to the amp.

Now my problem is that when I turn the car on, the amp goes into protect mode after about 5 seconds of being on. I remember that I accidentally pushed the amp when putting the subs in, it knocked the ground wire loose and made a HUGE spark against the positive wire. Since that happened the headunit or eq will not turn on at all.

I checked the fuses and they are fine and I smelt no burning or electrical fire at all. Can somebody please help!?

did you check the fuses under the dash, i bet one is fried.also the amp maybe toast now too.disconnect the remote wire from the amp and tape it up.check the deck and eq fuses and also blown fuses under the dash .then try to turn on the deck and eq.start there first .

I checked the fuses on both the eq and the head unit and the fuses are not blown. I completely rewired the headunit and eq and neither will turn on, what could be wrong?

I got into the fuse box underneath the steering wheel, and found that number 32, the one for the radio was blown. I took a different fuse of the same rating and plugged it in and the headunit turned on! THANK YOU!

glad you got it sorted out.

lessons learned here:

1. screw the amp down to a rigid surface so it can't move. just setting it on the trunk floor is asking for problems.

2. make better connections that don't come out if you touch them.

3. don't work on a amp install with the battery ground connected.

It would also be easy to add an equalizer to have individual rca inputs for all of the channels. A decent one can be had for less than $40...

There are a couple of options. You can use a marine bt unit. They come in the size of a hockey puck and can mount anywhere. This is the marine unit.

There are bluetooth amplifiers. You can just use your phone or an I Pod as the music source and not touch the radio.
