Is my career path about to end before it begins? (law enforcement)

If you say so. I am in the ajudication phase of my federal background check. The forms that I signed specifically applied to ALL activities- regardless of legal result- had to be disclosed.
Maybe it was different in the past, but my clearance started processing 09.12.06 and they interviewed me for almost 4 hours regarding even things that I was NOT caught doing.

Your friend may also not have undergone a federal LAW ENFORCEMENT background check. I worked as a contractor for the government prior to coming on full-time, and as a contractor I had a much more basic (and less invasive) check called a "Public Trust" background check.
he is working with kids in an afterschool type program and enrolled in the police academy with the local police department, their academy, not someone elses.

Yup. I hate people that hate cops because they are 'dicks'. I have never had a bad experience with an officer, and I have been arrested twice.
Of course, there are cops that are in fact assholes, but you can not group them all together and say they are all the same way. Just like saying all black people steal...
most cops are really cool level headed people, jsut dont give them a line of BS and they are cool with you. even if they are a dick, you have to understand the stress involved with being a officer. it is a job most people dont want to do when they really find out what real police work is. they are exposed to so much stuff, deal with so much BS, and they always have to be the bad guy by writing citations, arresting people, impounding cars, etc... so cut them some slack, be honest with them, acknowledge the fact that you did something wrong and take responsibility for it.

Im a college student, currently majoring in business (although i never had a real interest in it, i only wanted to pick something until i figured out what i wanted to do). I will be changing my major next quarter to criminology. I want to pursue some path of law enforcement (was hoping it would be on the federal level), but i have a criminal record.
I have a drug abuse charge (marijuana) on my juvenile record and an underage drinking charge from last year (i'm 19 now).

I havent used any drugs for quite some time now, and i try to lead a pretty honest life.

Will i have a hard time trying to find work just because of these two charged that happened at such an early period in my life? does anybody have any law enforcement experience? if so would you be able to help me out with this situation?

anybody have military experience? I have had a lot of thoughts of joining for 2-4 years after college, but i would like to try out a position as an MP or something similar, but will i even be able to?

thanks
Time is your friend. 5+ yrs between your illegal activity and application is the best route... College is good... Military time, better.
Maturity is key. Everyone does stupid shit when they're young. As long as you've learned from your mistakes, you'll have a great chance if all you have is what you've mentioned.

so i would like to get some experience in the military and then come right out to a government job (or i would settle for something like detective, hostage negotiator, etc.)
Won't get a specialized position without pulling time in the ranks... Contracted (Non-Sworn) Hostage Negotiator maybe. Detective? Not til after you beat the dirt with the rest. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I find myself liking cops/detectives less and less. Don't know if anything will happen, so I'm not gonna post anything up about it yet...but I have quite a story about the cops here. You do ALL the work for them....give them PROOF of who stole your friends shit and they still do NOTHING!

I mean seriously, around here they are good for nothing but writing foking tickets. Absolutely worthless when you actually need something from them.

OP: I doubt a weed possession and minor in possession will be that big of problem...can say I know for sure though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Its not like I've ever been arrested or ever been in trouble. The impression that stuck with me the most was when I was 14-15. I had just got into a rollover car wreck. The car I was in was no way, shape, or form responsible for the accident. Anyways, the cop has to take us to the wrecker lot and the whole way there, my friend's father was just trying to make small talk and the cop wouldnt even acknowledge him. And when we thanked him...nothing, not even a nod. Other times, Ive tried to talk to them at work. I worked at a movie theater and on slow days when I didnt have anything to do and the cops didnt either, I would try to talk to them. But they would never say anything more than "hello" or "huh?". Not to be concieved as me thinking they are jackasses though. Most of them where just boring as hell, but this didnt improve my liking of cops any. Some where jackasses though. And I take it back being only 2. Its probably more like 4. I met 3 cool ones from when I worked and 1 was a next door neighbor growing up.
maybe your neighbor put out an APB of what a douche you are and they were dicks to you since that point

I was like 3 when I very first met him. I still talk to him on occassion to this day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

fvck the police
I hope you get in a bad situation and they dont come....

anyways to the thread poster...those jobs you listed are highly competitive jobs. youre going to be competing with people with flawless records and straight A's since they were in 1st grade. hate to rain on your parade but i just dont see you getting that job with a background like that. sorry. i dont even think cops can get jobs if they have anything here in arkansas

I hope you get in a bad situation and they dont come....
dude fawk the police, that is exactly what happens. They are all up in your face for victimless crimes, bustin you for blazin, but everytime i have actually called the police they never even came. Once i was at a mini golf place, outside, in the summer, and we were smoking cigarettes. This crazy guy fresh outta jail comes over and tries to **** us up with a putter for smokin cigs by his dumb kid. Anyway, called cops- they never showed up. Unless they can make money off it by giving you fees and bills to pay, they dont give a ****.

another example, my friends car got stolen, we call the cops, no weak po po shows up for about an hour, then they sent a ho cop with a **** ride a long lady. WEAK!! but my brother got into a minor fight last week and the cops have been all up in his shit, callin our house, stoppin by his classes, its ludicris they can prioritize their investigations by how much $$ they can ticket you or bust you.

Also, to everyone saying crap to the OP or anyone else who says cops ****- listen and try to understand this. Where the hell do police feel they have the power to arrest you or ticket you for victimless crimes like smokin pot or drinkin underage? f that its my body, quit bein a pussay

I have no problems with police. Never been pulled over though, other than once, and I told him I thought he was fake and I left. Guess he was, because he didn't follow me or mail me a ticket. Pulled me over IN my neighborhood for taking a turn TOO SLOW. Wasn't in a uniform or anything so I just told him I didn't believe him and left him standing there, and went to my buddies house down the road.

Other than that, I don't care about cops, they are just doing their job just like anyone else. They just have the upper hand on who has a good day and who doesn't. I would LOVE to **** up peoples day everyday, only making mine better.

not true. one of my friends was a troubled youth; arrests, revoked license, etc... and he had no trouble with a fed background check. he works for the gov in a childrens program.
not hard, I got arrested for ccw when I was 20(was dropped cause the cop was full of shit) and I work for the school board now. If your not convicted of a felony or any assault crime you can work federal and local government.
