Is my career path about to end before it begins? (law enforcement)

The Wistles Go WOOOOOO!
Im a college student, currently majoring in business (although i never had a real interest in it, i only wanted to pick something until i figured out what i wanted to do). I will be changing my major next quarter to criminology. I want to pursue some path of law enforcement (was hoping it would be on the federal level), but i have a criminal record.

I have a drug abuse charge (marijuana) on my juvenile record and an underage drinking charge from last year (i'm 19 now).

I havent used any drugs for quite some time now, and i try to lead a pretty honest life.

Will i have a hard time trying to find work just because of these two charged that happened at such an early period in my life? does anybody have any law enforcement experience? if so would you be able to help me out with this situation?

anybody have military experience? I have had a lot of thoughts of joining for 2-4 years after college, but i would like to try out a position as an MP or something similar, but will i even be able to?

thanks

juvenile records go away after you turn 22. so that shouldn't be a problem. they aren't suppose to be made public.

cops are gay
lemme guess you did something illegal got caught but of course it wasn't your fault?

they might turn you down because of your record. but go and talk to the police department or the main guy at the post academy to check out the details. if you walked in off the street an applied, they would most likely take someone else over you, but if you have a 4 year degree and if you put yourself through the academy, your chances just went through the roof. best bet is to talk to someone in the training field about it. they would know the most about this topic. and i plan on entering the academy within the next year or two. my family has a long history of law enforcement in the local police, sheriffs, and highway patrol.

I know you cannot enter medical or pharmacy school in Oregon if you have ANYTHING on your record, juvenile (if you enter under 23) or otherwise. It may be something similar with your program.

if you want to work for the federal government yes, those charges can come back to haunt you. possibly even the juvenile ones. despite what you may think. however charges like assault etc. are what really throw a wrench in.

Federal background checks involve ALL charges, arrests, PBJs, plea agreements, and convictions from birth through current.
not true. one of my friends was a troubled youth; arrests, revoked license, etc... and he had no trouble with a fed background check. he works for the gov in a childrens program.
