High End 6.5 Co-Axial Recommendations

Hey all,

I'm doing a build for an old mustang, and my original ideal for using the defrost spaces for the mids didn't turn out that well (not that it didn't work, but I need a defroster on fall nice days...).

That said, I'm not going to modify the dash pad, so have to opt for the kick panels. Any recommendations? 75w top end.

If there's anyone who's done a build for a '65/'66, let me know. I'm still open to ideas.

How high end are we talking?
What is your realistic budget?
After a quick search; they have kick panels that are aftermarket and vary in cost between 60-300 dollars. There are some great coaxials on the market but you could also buy a two way that may perfom better which would offer more options. It would require cutting a couple holes and a few more wires but a classic car guy shouldn't have a problem there.

Upper limit is about $700 for the fronts (so decent quality). I have kick panels already to mount them to. Everything I've seen that have built in speakers in panels I am not interested in.

The Morel speakers I have still can work, however I have no idea now where to place the mids.... the xovers are already mounted and wired in the glove box.

I'll be strengthening the kick panels with fiberglass as well.

So, you already have some Morels in the car. That might be the way to go then. I was going to recommend Illusion audio but if you have Morel and enjoy their drivers the Hybrid Integra might be what you are looking for.
Hybrid Integra
I have experience with home hifi having heard Morel before, but have not heard any of their car audio drivers. I'm certain they will be excellent but the specific ones I mentioned are $799 dollars. I don't want to arbitrarily; give you advice, about specific drivers which I have not yet heard. However; these will most likely "fit the bill."
If you are going to reinforce them with fiberglass you are already on the right path. My only addendum would be to add some sound deadening to the interior of the panels and some neoprene or closed cell foam to decouple the surfaces.
There are probably offerings with the same output for lower cost but it may require a little more research.
I'll help in any way I can.

Any photos you can offer would be cool and helpful...

The interior is still gutted waiting for the cooling system to be updated, so the Morels aren't in yet. The mids were going to go in the defrost vents (perfect fit), however in the fall now I see where the windshield does fog up a little, even with windows down, etc.

That's why I was looking at some two ways in the kick panels. System as it stands now is:

Antique Automotive Head Unit with BT (Replica of original optional AM/FM). RCA's out.
JL Audio RD700/5 amp
Kicker 47KSC4604 4x6 in the doors (replicates original optional speaker placement)
Kicker 51KSC41004 4x10 (in original dash location for center)
Morel VN Carbon 63 Carbon Thin in Kick Panels, top dash (rethinking this one...)
JL Audio 10W6v3-D4 Sub in trunk (space constraints for not two of these).
Dynamat throughout cabin floor/doors/nooks/crannies/headliner

Attached are some photos of the start of all this. It's due back in Oct sometime, so I'll be wrapping all this up then.

It looks great. You have some experience working with car audio. Those shallow carbon drivers are gorgeous.
