Is my amp bad?

I have the kenwood 8105d mono amp going into protect mode. Odd problem because if my head unit is on and I disconnect the ground cable to the amp and reconnect it, the amp powers on and works fine so I assume my ground point is good (scuffed paint and attached strong) The remote turn on lead is working because my equalizer powers on. I do have a relay for the remote lead because i plan on adding another amp. Voltage is 12.3 at the POS and NEG terminal of amp and at the remote lead even when the amp is in protect mode.

If there is something internally wrong with the amp I was thinking of using a battery cut off switch for the ground cable of the amp because it does turn on as long as my head unit is on and I reconnect the ground. Dumb idea?

Thanks

Thanks for the input. A new amp not being a part of my budget is why Im wondering if a cut off switch for the ground would be an ok temp fix seeing that it does work when the ground is connected after the head unit is on. Any big risks doing this?
