Is MDF needed on running 6x9's IB in the rear deck?

Title.

I have an 07 accord coupe and want to run 2 6x9 CDT subs in the rear deck. I want clarity but definitely a little boom too. Never ran IB and really trying to understand the science of it. My understanding is that the way you get distortion is from interference of the back and front wave, but if its sealed you are fine. Also if any part of the surround is weak its vibration will introduce noise.

So would just popping the 6x9 subs into the rear deck be fine? Its made of pretty sturdy aluminum and has a small brace in the center of the rear deck lid. There are some small holes in the rear deck which would obviously need to be covered. If I sound dampened the rear deck on both the top and the bottom would that be enough to 'seal' the surround?

Eh, if you're expecting any kind of real low end from them I would consider sealing them off and giving them their own airspace. (Not IB)
Not with CDT 6x9 subs. This is perfectly fine for them

Bracing the deck is a good idea, and it might be necessary to build spacers anyway.

Stiffening the rear deck up definitely wouldnt hurt but then again I am not familiar with your car so it might be sturdy enough already. Use your best judgement here. If the subs make the rear deck flex thats lost energy/sound. A little overkill would be a good thing here. Also you will pretty much need to completely seal the trunk from the interior for the best results. Sealing up your rear deck is a start but you really need to seal off the back of the seat also and any other holes you can find.

Ya I was looking up more on IB last night and saw I needed to have the whole trunk sealed off for best performance. So even if I had the rear deck fully sealed up I would have to put a wall behind my back seat. I like to drop down my rear seats sometimes for snowboard equipment etc. so this is out of the question for now but I could always add it later.

And what do you mean the cdt subs are fine for this? Are they designed for free air only? Would any do fine off 50 watts each or would I need 75+ watts?

Minimally I would due 3/4 MDF speaker rings to support te speakers. Ive done a few Accord coupes and the rear deck isnt bad but it could use help . I think its Keep Hope Alive has an IB in his vehicle he is very knowledgeable on the technical aspects.

Ya and I've seen his thread on building accords. So with the rings do you do them above the rear deck or below and drill into them? I just want to keep it factory as looking as possible and don't know how much room I have to deaden and reinstall the factory carpet.
