my older cousin used to always tell me that bose had the greatest shit you could find but i never believed him an the times i have been around a bose system they sound gay they seem more like old people setups.

My dad has one of those Bose wave radios and its pretty decent i have to say. Most people rag on Bose because they use cheaper materials to keep costs low. But most of their stuff is acoustically engineered better than a lot of their competitors and it works for them.

They have severe compromises in their designs that are totally unnacceptable (im just commenting on their home offerings though)

Their home stuff is terrible; they make a decent table radio, but that doesn't exactly require state of the art R&D.

The bottom line is that any speaker with a soda can sized cabinet is going to sound like ***. Most people who buy Bose have never heard a real hifi system, let alone decent midfi like what you'd get from B&W, Klipsch, or Mirage. They're usually just impressed with the Bose "subwoofer" since they've never heard bass before, the brand recognition, and how the satellites "disappear," even if they can't reproduce any bass, midbass, or high frequency information.

Bose is decent when you consider what they work with from a driver standpoint. They use a lot of eqing using psychoacoutic principles to get the frequency response to seem to go higher and lower than it really does. Thus the saying "No highs, no lows, must be Bose."

Their stuff is pleasant to the ear but far from accurate and isn't something that you would choose for critical listening.

I hooked up a bose sub setup on my own amp and bypassed their processing and the thing had no bass at all below 60hz. Their processing plays harmonics that create a psuedo low frequency sound but it is not real and if you hear the same material on two different setups, you can hear the difference. There is a processor on the market that does the same thing and claims you can get awesome bass response from 4x6s.
