Is BCAE1 right about this one?

I mean don't get me wrong, I'm not retarded I know the ins and outs of car audio, why fuse and what to fuse to. In my old system I had a distribution block and I fused every segment of wire, but now I'm just really thinking about it and wondering if it's really necessary.

Wasn't there a guy here a few years ago who completely melted part of his engine block because of fuked up wiring and fusing??That was a BIG deal!!

 
What if wire G has a surge and is suddenly pulling 125 amps, or even 250 amps? Don't most fuses fail at about 2x the power they are rated after like 5 seconds or so? Isn't dynamic power essentially the amp surging?

It comes down to this... What wires are you using? you usually fuse to the wire.. so 0ga can usually accept up to 300amps or so.. but if you equipment only takes 150 then thats all you really need on there since you don't want anymore than that going to your amp anyways..

so if you are going 0-4 ga if the 0ga has a 300a fuse on it the 4 ga will not carry that load.. so that fuse won't see that 300 til the wire melts down and gets to the fuse... so you would fuse to the 0 gauge... Now then if you had a 100a fuse on the 0 ga for some reason then it would be fine for the 4 ga as the 4 ga can handle that load and the fuse would go first get it..?

Theres always the chance that if its not a dead short, the fuse wont blow but there might be enough sparks to light the carpet or whatever else is around the wire on fire.

 
Anyway, that being said. My usamps 2000 had to have 4x4 gauge wiring running to it from a distro, and I never fused it. My car didn't blow up. Where does it stop?

 
try hooking up some 8 gauge to a sundown 3k and play full tilt

Well I guess I'm implying that you're smart enough to not put those wires in a position where they're be subject to that kind of current. (again, except in a short where you'll be pulling way more amps that 125 anyway, so the fuse of the battery would protect it)
I guess there could be a situation where the amp malfunctions and somehow draws lots of current, but then the amp's fuse would blow. So I guess if your amp doesn't have a fuse then you'd want to fuse the wire out of a distribution block.
