Is all air-space created equal????

i just put a super- humungo box in my CRX to house 2 Audiobahn AWT12X's and wow do they kick, but the box is so BIG. so i was wondering, i have the spare tire compartment underneath, and was wondering if i glassed a new enclosure, and made it shorter, using that airspace, would it make a difference? A ported box is recommended for these subs, and thats what i have now, but if i play around with the space that i have, and make a Sealed glass box, would it still sound as good:eyebrow: . anybody have these subs?? anybody know what i'm talking about? help! thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/help.gif.cee8f684da1ba626487a8bc51152e1ec.gif

i have a civic and i too want to use the tire space. i am wanting to see if i can fit a 15 or two 10's in the space and have them be flush with the rest of the floor. as for the bahn subs, i doubt many ppl on this forum will have them. how about building a fibergass box with ports?

you can build a fiberglass box with ports? i diddnt think it would hold up. ive never worked with fiberglass b4, but that box in my trunk is WAY too big, i'm gonna try and use the trunk space to even it out, but how do i calculate airspace???

in response to the crx man, yes, AIRSPACE is all equal if its the same amount and pressurized by this atmosphere.

but NO, not all boxes are acoustically the same, square boxes with long ports can have killer port noise and 'dead spots' in the corners of the boxes where the air gets trapped. fiberglass boxes are usually irregular and have funny angles and such, but they are usually thinner and can resonate if they arent thick enough.

buf if you glass your wheelwell, and you build the box to spec, it should be about the same as the box you have now.

there are more factors that go into this than just the box type\size

why couldnt you? and why wouldnt it? as long as its built correctly with the right ammount of bracing, why would it not work?

thanks. and i dont really mind losing cabin space, the box is just too tall. i want to glass it, but when i open the hatch its just THERE. and i was thinking of scrapping the box, using the spare tire space, and lowering it. i'll post pics in the morning to show u guys what i'm talking about, the box is too high up.

I seem to remember Team Kicker building a fiberglass enclosure for 3 12's in the truck of a mustang (needs to find the mags again) with a large 'exhaust' inspired port. looked sick, but a definate pain in the ***.

Wait, doesn't making more air space in the trunk outside of the box result in MORE cabin gain?
