is a flat response a good idea in car audio?

I'm looking at sub choices for my wife's new (to us) car and I'm curious if a somewhat flat response curve is even desirable in a car. It is a convertible hard top so I expect a lot of the sound to drift away instead of stay in the cabin and gain.

Would a more conventional 34-40hz tune be more effective in a open top car?

pros / cons?
