Is a 400W RMS amp enough to power 2 pioneer 400W RMS subs? How loud?

I've currently got 1 sub in my car, a 12" pioneer TS-W307D2 (2 Ohm) in a sealed box. When I want lots of bass, I'll crank it up and the sub will start to clip, so I need to turn it down a bit.

I wanted more bass, so my plan was to buy another identical 12" TS-W307D2 sub, put both in a custom tuned ported box, and power it with my pioneer 400W RMS amp. Would this amp be enough to power both 400W RMS subs? Would they still be able to get loud enough (e.g. 70% or more of their max bass output?).

Any help would be great, thanks.

Try porting the single sub first. Use http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html to get an almost accurate box design. Try to get atleast 12-16 square inches of port area and shoot for a volume of 1.85, so you get after displacement 1.75.

Also, try to get a tunning frequency of 34-37 hz. You will get much more louder sound than the sealed box, also you need to check out if the amplifier is causing the clipping, cause it is what usually origins clipping.

The problem with buying another identical sub is that you'll only be able to wire the coils down to 2 ohms, halving the output of the amp. You'll only have 100 watts going to each sub.

Selling your current sub and buying dual 4 ohm subs instead would be an option. But if I were you, I'd just port it. Those Pioneers like ported enclosures.

Good point //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif.

I think my only option would be to sell my sub setup now, and buy a new one.

If I buy two TS-W307D4 subs, could I parallel each 4ohm coil to make each sub 2ohms, then parallel these two 2ohms and receive 1 ohm? Would it be safe to power two subs at 1ohm?

Also, I was thinking I may as well buy a new amp. If I'm going to power two subs, at 1ohm, do I need to buy a 1ohm stable amp? Would this amp be sufficient to run the system at 1ohm - http://www.ryda.com.au/Kenwood-KAC-8104D-Car-Amplifier-p/kac8104d.htm

the pioneer 400w rms subs are over rated... wouldn't give them over 200 rms each if you want to keep your subs
I'm already running my single at 400W RMS, for about a year, haven't had any problems with it and I've been pumping it hard //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.

Anyway, please look and help me with my post above //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
