Image Dynamics ID 8" or ARC Audio 8"

There not possibly from same company are they?

they share very similar specs so i didnt know if they are equal so just buy cheapest or if one will have better sound quality.

also these blow an 8" kicker solo baric L5 away? im not an expert or anything, the L5 has less xmax but has twice the rms, and is square having more cone area than round 8"s, so it should be competitive with the above 8"s.

lastly will either ID 8" or ARC 8" be able to handle 200watt rms? when i bridge my amp for two subs it does 200w X2, as long as i dont max out my volume on stereo they will be ok?

I'd roll with the ID.....double the wattage nets you only 3 dbs, but the sound quality of a square woofer is doo doo....

And personally I think Arc has fallen off a bit....

I believe ID OEMs for Arc on some of their subs. Yeah ID makes thoe 8s for them.

The Arc has a lower qts so it'll work in a smaller enclosure if you're space limited. The Kicker will be louder but won't sound as good. You plan on going sealed or ported?

They're both rated 150 RMS, so 200 clean watts should be fine.

watch your gains, and dont send clipped signal to them and you should be just fine.

modeled them both up in WinISD for closed and vented apps with rec'd box size

the Arc shows being ~1db louder in the sub 50hz range. however you ears will not pick up that difference. and i've heard more positive reviews on the ID's

Crutchfield says the L5 is known for its great sound quality, but all over the internet i read that they get loud and low but the sound quality is not very good.

the specs on both subwoofer's website say they are good in a .35 cu ft box and thats probably all i got.

the ID is $20 cheaper from woofersetc.com

i have a p400-4 rockford amp if that matters on the opinions if 200 watts from it is true and safe.

Yeah I forgot to say that I'd just get the ID becuase its cheaper and the Arc probably won't be much of a difference, if any.

Edit: The ID8 would work great in that air space.

sound waves are round in nature, so coming from a square, they aren't in the proper shape.

yay physics :p

also, you may be able to squeak some 10's into ~.4ft3 if you have the surface area. if not, go ID 8's or possibly E8's. E8's want 200wrms, have 12mm xmax, only need ~.28ft3 and get low. also, they can be had gently used for ~50-60 each online. i believe there are a few floating around this site as well as caco. and once mine are reconed, mine will probably pop up f/s too.

Remember the square 8 is almost the size of a round ten, so you do have that to take into consideration.

As far as square subs having poor sq, IIRC there are world champion level cars with L7's in them...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

no doubt that more surface area=more volume.

however more xmax=more output as well.

i still vote E8's for affordability, specs, power match up.

p.s. i'm not hating on the L7's. i just think that they fall short in quality compared to the ID's. though they will win in output. two very different woofers.

I'm just playing devils advocate.... look at my sig //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

haha yea. i almost ran the ID8's. went for the E8's though. now they're awaiting a recone. no fun.

gonna be a daredevil and run 2 DD1508's sealed off probably an AQ1200. should be a fun experiment. i want to put to rest the whole "DD is for ported ONLY" myth. ported is more efficient, yes. they excel in ported, yes. but. they will also perform better than expected sealed, we'll see. WinISD says yes. lol. my ears will find out once it gets wamr enough to "redecorate" the car.

Started with e8's.... meh for sealed. I would like to see the 1508 sealed. I wonder if it may have issues though, as it is optimized for ported enclosures, the suspension will not work right in a sealed box.... would be too tight I think.

haha those lil 1508's are rated 500/1800. i'm thinking they'll love 600 in a small sealed. just wont clip them, and tah dah //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

p.s. sorry for slight thread jack OP
