Is 18" too big?

I was talking to the guy at the local car audio shop. I asked him about getting an 18". He said he wouldn't advise it because the cone area is so large that it causes the cone to have a "ripple" effect and causes loss of SQ.

True or false???

i used to think that, until i heard one in a correctly designed and constructed box. i listen to alot of heavy metal and it sounded really good. hearing it also destroyed the notion that larger subs can't "keep up" with double bass metal.

cool. I'm not as interested in volume as much as moving some air. Dont get me wrong, I like it loud, but I just want to shake things up (so to speak) and sound good doing it.
