Is 1200-1500 rms enough to sufficiently power hdc3

As of right now I'm using a hds310, off a kicker 750.1 amp. I just bought a nine.1 from Michael lane. Which is rated at 1200 rms at 12.5v. So around 13-14v I can maybe get around 1300-1500 out of it.

I was thinking of getting an icon later, but I found an old AQ hdc3 motor from like 5 years ago in my dad's garage with all my blown kicker motors. Haha. Totally forgot I had bought one years ago with the intention of reconing it. Never got around to it, but now that I found it and I see how cheap it is to recone it I'm thinking of doing it. I only want to do it if that's enough power for it though. I'm sure it can handle 2k, just want to make sure 1200-1500 is enough power to get it pretty loud. So thoughts?

It'll be pretty much as loud as the HDS on the same power in the same box. Only difference is that it can take more power, should you have it.

Well the hds is a d4. So I can only wire it down to 2 ohms. The hdc3 would be a dual 2 so I can wire it down to 1 ohm. The difference is 900-1000ish vs 1200-1400ish on the new amp. Old amp is pushing around 750 to the hds.

Would that make a notable difference?

Difference will be in SQ, not output. It'll play lower with more confidence.

noooooo It has WAAAAY more motor force. 50lb sub vs 20lb sub. He will be a lot louder. Its a big jump from the hds to the hdc. Completely different class.

Between an hds200 and an hds300 series, then yeah there would be not much difference in loudness

I was about to ask this. Noticed the t/s parameters on website differ by a lot. Like the hds has like 14mm xmax and it shows the hdc3 has like 30. Among other things.

yeah, just because people say it can handle 2-3k doesnt mean it needs that much to get loud. In the right box, it will sing!

lol there's always debate about this. I think this translates into a difference between how much power a woofer can take. If they both saw the same power, they'd be pretty similar in output. Difference is that you can slap more power on it and at that point it'll get louder. On 1000W, same woofer, same sensitivity...I say output would be almost identical. Sensitivity takes into account motor force anyway.

Well sensitivity on the hds is like 81 vs 84 for the hdc3. Not sure how loud that is.

many different things account into how loud a woofer gets. From the T/S parameters mapped out, the HDS300 series are more SQ oriented than the HDC3s. HDC3s are a lot peakier, have more excursion capabilities and SPL potential is very high. On winisd when I input the same power to both, the SPL graph of the HDC3 was 4 db higher without cabin gain factored in.

Nice. Will be interested to see when he drops it in.

Yes, it will be noticeably louder. You are adding 450 watts of rated power. You'll be happy, trust me. I agree with the others who said to do it and you'll notice a difference
