Inverted subs?

If you invert subs, are they just as good as normal ones? I got my Type R fifteen in yesterday and realized that I didn't take mounting depth into account when I designed my box. I haven't built the box yet, but I don't want to have to change the design. The way the box is designed is that the subs go in on top, port out the bottom of the backside. 8.0ft^3 @roughly32-34hz. Maybe I could change the location of the port to the sides of the rear? Help please.

I personally dislike the inverted Sub (But that only me)

An inverted sub will normally make more mechanical noise (may be ok if the listeners are a long distance away)

Depending on the Basket and Magnet structure of the sub it can reduce some spl.

So if it's all the way in the back of my explorer, it won't hurt? The only reason I'm having trouble is if I put the subs in, they hit my port. I redesigned it for the ports to go to the side, so I could use the MDF I already have.

Like Zierbox said, they will produce more noise from the motor. It could actually be the same amount of noise but being inverted you'll notice it a lot more. I had an enclosure a couple years ago, it was four 8" subs inverted and four with the standard mounting and I definitely noticed more noise from the inverted subs. One other thing was I had to reverse the wiring on the inverted subs to get them to hit. Not sure if you have to do that if your inverting them all or that was just for my set up cause half were inverted.

You'll still hear it, I have a Blazer with the box in the back and I could still hear the noise.

Well if you took into account the displacement of your subs when you designed the box you will slightly affect the tuning by inverting...
