Howdy Folks!

I'm putting together a system for my '07 S2000. I'm not heavy into car audio, but at the same time, I want a good sounding system, that can overcome a little open air motoring, all while not breaking the bank.

I had a pretty stout system in my Supra (Eclipse, Xtant, MB Quart), but I wasn't directly involved with the selection (or install) and in my ride previous to the S (Z06) I just had the OEM setup with an aftermarket IPOD interface (that was semi-flakey).

I've already swapped out the headunit for an Alpine IDA-X100 (using a premade P&P harness), ran the IPOD/USB interface into a compartment between the seats, works outstanding, really happy, I'm mainly using it with a 80GB IPOD.

I plan on doing an amp, components and a sub. My plans for the amp is a 4 channel with 2 channels driving the components (I'm fine with a passive config) and the other 2 channels bridged to drive a single 10" sub. Since the S isn't a big car, I'm getting an enclosure from a vendor who makes it to fit in the corner of the trunk (made to spec for an 8" or 10"), really optimizing the available space. The amp will probably go in the trunk too, possible under the software deck (where there's not a ton of airflow).

I was originally sold on the PPI 356CS components, especially at $135 to my door, then a couple of trips to DC for business, holidays, etc., by the time I got around to purchasing, the supply had dried up. I've seen some for over $150, so I started thinking about alternatives under $200.

My research has led me to the CDT CL-62s (Classics). I don't like really "screechy" highs, and the mids will be offset by a dedicated sub (so they don't have to pick up "sub duty" or anything).

My amp choice was originally an Alpine PDX (like a 4.100), but I've seen some alternatives from (at least to my knowledge) decent manufacturers. The one that caught my eye (and I've seen a few positive posts about) is the MB Quart Discuss, like the DSC 4125. I was thinking an amp for $200 (or less) would be good unless there's a big performance jump spending a little more - the Sundown 100.4 looks like a really solid performer.

Sub I figured a JL 0W , like $100 or less, 10", not sure how much better a dual coil sub is? I'd want it to be pretty punchy (and it wouldn't be handling much ultra low bass - see below).

I (we) mainly listen to rock/alt-rock/classic-rock, a little old school hip-hop on occasion, some funk/punk (at least in the car). I'm not married to any particular brand or do I have to go completely new since I know there's some great deals in the used market for some items.

I also want to plan out some power, interconnect, etc., which I have zero idea about. I'm doing this install myself (for fun actually), so I'm sure there's a ton of small details I haven't considered. I'm pretty technically savvy (with electronics, computers, home theater), just totally out of the loop with car audio!

Any input is welcome (alternate system setups, different brands, etc.).

Thanks much in advance!

Already used the great info from here and started up getting my system together. I have a Knu amp kit coming with Kolossus Fleks & Karma SS RCA/Speaker and I scored a killer deal on a nearly new Sundown 100.4D. Just got to make a final decision on my components!

that sundown 100.4 u got is awesome. You will be happy with the put out that amp can do once you get it wired up.

Sweet. Thanks! Holy S___, you've got some serious Sundown gear //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Working on my Component decision right now!
