I have found this very interesting. Despite all of the terrible job losses and companies in bankruptcy, there is one sector that seems to have a wealth of available jobs. I feel fortunate to have the training and background to meet many of the candidate requirements in this sector. Maybe those that are considering a career change to move into a more secure job or going for additional training to increase their employment potential should consider this field.

Non profit organizations and the humanitarian sector....

Idealist.org

http://www.idealist.org/if/as/Job

search "all countries" as there are many jobs abroad that US citizens qualify for however most on this site are based in U.S.

more than 4200 available and more than 300 are added every day.

Reliefweb.int

A United Nations suppored site with jobs from many organizations in many sectors within the community.

http://reliefweb.int/rw/res.nsf/doc212?OpenForm

1000 current vacancies with many added daily.

http://www.alertnet.org/thepeople/jobs/

http://developmentaid.org/job_board.php

more than 1500 available jobs.

Just thought i would give a tip as I have had no shortage of interviews and callbacks recently.

good luck everyone... we are going to need it!!!

nursing is big right now too. if you're a nurse not only will you find a job easily, you'll probably get a signing bonus
I thought about going into this field but in th end I just can't. A lot of crap that I would see gives me the heebie jeebies. Some of it would even mentally drag me down that day. I place a high value on my mental stability.

Well although nursing in some instances can fall within the non-profit sector this is not always the case as many health care institutions are for profit institutions. those of us in the Non-profit/development/humanitarian field typically dont consider nursing jobs or medical related jobs within the sector if they take place at traditional health care facilities.

Ive been riding that gravy boat for a few years now.

I work for a non profit that does Human services. So its X2 as secure.

Truth, I worked at a hospital for one day. In that day I had to help lift a real fat woman on to the medivac, and seen a kid that smashed his face on the pavement and was drug for a little bit. I went to the boss, and told him that this arrangement was probably not going to work out. I proceeded to go home, get drunk, pass out, and forget:)
