Installing Mustang Head Unit

I just purchased a 95 Mustang drop top for my soon to be driving daughter. The car has a Mach 460 factory audio system. I want to change out the head unit with a Kenwood AM/FM/CD head unit out of a Firebird my dufuss son totaled about a month ago. I understand the factory Ford unit self locks into the dash and special tool is needed to remove the factory unit. What if any modifications do I need to make to install the Kenwood unit into the factory slot?

It has been a while since I did my buddy's 'stang but, if memory serves me right, I believe that the after market HU went in with out any difficult mods. I think the only thing I needed was the wire harness adaptor. I sure once you get it apart it will all fall into place.

Bottom line: it was not that hard at all.

Your in luck bud..I have a 1995 mustang with a Kenwood headunit..They go in with no problems..You don't have to get any special brackets in order to put them in..I have a Kenwood kdc-4019 (HU)..It went in with no problems to slide it in and your done...Hope I was helpful

You were Thumper. Glad to see things are finally going my way for a change. Usually I'd have to make some mods or buy some type of adapter to make things work. Hope it turns out as easy and you say.

ya, ford is stupid, if it ahs 2 nice little holes on either side, about teh diameter of a caot hanger wire, they are easier than sh!t to pull out..

take a coat hanger, cut off the curly ends, fashio 2 U shaped pieces with teh points corresponding to the two veertical holes on either side..

push them in, feel the springs holding the caot hanger and pull, l ol.

easier than shi!t, eh?

grab an aftermarket wiring harness, (15 bucks) and ahve some fun

Ford tries to charge like 30 bucks for it, lol.

honestly, all it is is a piece of wire bent into taht shape, lol.

basically a narrow U,

just shove it in, feel it grab, and yank, lol.

if you happened to order from crutchfield they'll include it free. i know everyone says they're a ripoff but they really helped me out w/ all their directions and stuff cuz it was my first install ever
