Install shop changed prices on me

So I'll ask you the same question I asked earlier. Would you go to your job and work 8+ hours a day for free?
There are two types of people in this world.

1: People with more knowledge than money.

2: People with more money than knowledge.
i never knew installers had pHd's.

you also pay your plumber $85/hr?

The hourly rate in America for any service is between $65 to $105 an hour, so if I needed a plumber I would pay $85 an hour.

I guess you havent seen a plumbers bill but they get not far under $100, also some car shops have shop rate posted, expect around $85-100

jowens is just doing a job, he either has to pay his workers, is getting paid as a worker (pay electricity, water, etc)

Also I have use knu 0awg for about 2 months without any problems but keep in mind its not true copper its CCA (copper clad aluminum so its 90% aluminum and only 10% copper)

Which is why it's only $3.50 a foot and prone to corrosion.

Ok here is my rant... I was having a system install at my audio shop which I had a lot of stuff installed before. So at first I was going to buy some equipment from them and the guy wrote me up for a price. Then I told him I'll get my stuff from prior installs and order a couple of things from the net.
Here is what they wanted to install:

Headunit: Pioneer 600ub - $250

Sub: JL 13" w3 - $299.99

Amp: Pioneer 600.1 - $250

Amp: Pioneer 100.2 - $110

Sub box - $100

4 guage amp kit - $50

Install radio - $50

Install both amps - $210

Install Comps - $100

Total roughly 1419.00

Anyway I get in there today and I tell the guy the stuff I got and he's like ok we are good so I leave. about an hour later he calls me and was like yeah I have to use 0 guage wire so I'm like ok, but that's an extra $100 over the 4 guage price. Then he tells me the install will be $1000. And I'm like how in the hell is that possible when I'm suppling all my equipment sub box and all. The only thing they are providiing is the amp kit and labor.

List of stuff I took to them to install that they want $1000:

Kicker CVX 15"

Kicker zx1000.1

Kicker 250.2

Sub Box

Pioneer 700BT

HD radio

Hertz 6.5 comp

Should I be pissed or am I overreacting? BTW this is going into a 99 expedition.

Shops make their money from selling you equipment and installing it, not installing equipment that you buy on the net and bring to them to install.

I guess we shouldn't use either. Copper corrodes too.
True, but not at as fast. In either case the corrosion USUALLY doesn't affect performance much. But, I did say usually and in the case of the wire I use as an example at the shop it was so bad the wire stopped passing current. So in that case, I would say it was a BIG problem. If you want a sample PM me your address and I will ship it to you free of charge.

Right, so for a 4 or 5 hour MAX job (should be less considering they should have alot of experience with it and it should go very smoothly), there's no justifying $1000. That's a straight rip off. $500 I'd say maybe...but realistically...if you could find a friend who knows what they're doing...they'll do pretty much the exact same thing for free or alot less...hell for $100 I'd be willing to take my time and do a good job on it, $1000? How sore is your ***?

If you read the whole post all he had was the equipment. He had no parts other than a box. No wire, RCA's, fuse holder, kit, harness, ring terminals, fuses, or anything else to install a two amp full system. You think the install shop thats doing the work should give him that stuff for free? It cost them money, the company who made it didn't give it to them for free.

So you would fly or drive to Philly form CA and install it for $100?

And installing car audio is not your job.

I'm saying would you do your job for free or half what they pay you now? Thats what your saying the shop that did the work for him should do.

I do it for a living, I still hook my friends up, but obviously, he doesn't have any friends who can do it for him and he flat said he couldn't do it himself, so the only option is to pay someone. He took it to someone who charged or try to charge him a grand to do it. Hence the more money than knowledge. If you read all the post, I said if it was at my shop it would have been around $600. Which is not that much more than the seem agreed upon $500 total it "should" cost.
