inline low pass filters?

They just filter out the rated frequencys like a water filter, filters out dirt.

They tend to have a shallow xover slope so a higher cut off may be needed for desired effect.

EG- the 70hz one doesn,t cut out all frequencys below 70 hz instead it gradually makes them quieter as the frequency drops to 20hz, this is called a slope, a 6DB slope is considered shallow, an 18DB slope is the standard slope found on most amplifier xovers, a 24DB slope is considered steep.

The xover DB rating is the amount of attenuation per octave from a set cut off point.
