infinity 7540 vs kicker kx800.4

I sold my kicker kx800.4 and bought an infinity 7540. Both are sold as 100x4 amps. The infinity has 1/2 the fuse rating 60A vs 120A. The infinity is 1/2 the size.

The infinity blew away the kicker. With the kicker the sub would start clipping before it ever got loud. With the infinity it gets extremely loud, no clipping. Car audio is full of surprises who would have thought an amp half the size and half the fuse rating would be better?

Thats a great example on why you can't judge an amp by its fuses.

Clipping, or was the 800.4 overpowering?

no it was clipping. The infinity is much louder it drives the sub to distortion without clipping.

no I am not driving it to distortion now, I did that when I set the gains.

The kicker clipped at low volumes because it had no power. The amp was overated with a huge heatsink and high fuse rating to make it look more powerful that it was.

there had to be something wrong....we sell alot fo 800.4's, and they do the rated power, plus some....sorry, just my experiences...

I've never heard anything about any kicker amps being overrated, in fact I've only heard about them being underrated....

Now I don't have anything against jbl or infinity, in fact I run a jbl amp and use to run infinity fronts, but I do believe kicker amps surpass both jbl and infinity in quality and actual vs rated power....
