Infinite Baffle or Sealed?

I read quite about infinite baffle setups, but I have never heard it. Is this setup only good for competition use? Would it make sense to run this type of setup in a daily driver or just stick sealed for good SQ.

From what I read Image Dynamics subs are a good choice for IB. What other subs would be good for IB?

IB actually is a little more work. Getting the rear waves sealed off from the front ones. So it often takes sealing up the trunk from the cabin.

A basic sealed box is cheap and easy enough I can't see the reason to go IB. Unless you're up for the challenge, and are bored.

You could go IB for your daily driver. Maybe a little more work than slapping together a sealed box........but worth it in the end.

TC Sounds TC2+ (Soundsplinter Rl-i)

I'm having a brain fart.....all I can think of right now other than the ID drivers.

But, basically, there are two routes you can go with IB. You can either go Low Q/Low Fs or High Q/Moderate-High Fs

Thanks for the quick replies.

I have a 2005 Altima and I basically want to do the type of setup that Scott Buwalda did on his 2003 Altima.

Already started the baffle, just wanted to know if I was on the right path before I buy subs and finish off the rest of the baffle and sealing the trunk.

Is there alot SPL lost with this setup?

Yeah; IB has the least overall output, but they have nice low end output, should better than sealed in the low end (since a box is essentially a mechanical highpass).

And yeah...if SQ is your goal; IB is the way to go //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

I dont know much about the tech side of things, but I had an IB in my 86 deville and the thing rocked. Had 2 12" competition Plyes powered by a Rubicon 302. It was pretty intense. the guys sitting in the back got a pretty good back massage. Took feeling the bass to a whole new level.

I was looking at Alpine 12" Type X's. They look like they would be good canidates for IB. I can get these for about $220.00 new.

Here are the numbers: QTS = .64, FS = 28

Anyone use these in IB? How much watts (about) to run 2 of these IB? They are rated at 1000RMS.

Don't listen to that guy. Just read his post and you can tell the extensive knowledge he has in car audio. Triangle subs...

When done proper IB can yield very pleasing results.

The question is do you wish to put in the extra effort, to install and seal everything.

Thank you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

And, as Jmac showed; you typically only need 50% of rated power or less when IB.

Thanks for the help, I made a baffle and mounted my existing subs under the rear deck like in the picture. I just have to finish sound deadening. It sounds great, big boast in the low end and is almost as loud as when they were in a sealed box. It blends in with the front stage real nice too. I like it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
